Attempt at a Gingerbread House

Our relatives came to visit us from Friday to Wednesday for Christmas. While we were waiting for Mamaw, Papaw Chester, and Aunt Cathie to arrive on Saturday, we tried to decorate a pre-made gingerbread house. Needless to say, it didn't go so well.

Here's the house pre-decorations. It looks so calm, so innocent.

We had a LOT of trouble with the Royal Icing. It refused to come out of the tube without a fight; so we fought it.

Papaw Joe finally had the genius idea to heat up the icing in the microwave! This made the spreading much easier. No matter how hard we tried, most of the decorations wouldn't stick.

Here is the final result. The chocolate block? Santa standing guard to prevent anyone from touching our fragile little house. If you made a gingerbread house, I hope you had better luck than we did!
